Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul has said he wants to continue in the role if given the chance, although he will not contest elections.

Appointed on May 30 through the National Sports Council (NSC), Bulbul initially described his tenure as a “T20 match” due to the short time left in the current board’s term, which ends in October. Nearly three months later, he now says he is looking at the job with a longer-term vision.

Speaking to journalists in Narayanganj on Sunday (24 August), Bulbul confirmed he will not run in elections but is willing to stay if authorities decide to extend his role.
“I’ve said before that I’ll never contest elections. How can I? I don’t have the resources required for that. I came here freely through the National Sports Council. If they want me to continue, I’ll stay and give my best,” Bulbul explained.
“There’s a lot of confusion. But T20 cricket is played over 120 balls, not in just two overs. Everything will depend on the situation. Now, I’m trying to play a long innings,” he added.

Recently, speculation has arisen that the BCB elections may not be held on time. Responding to this, Bulbul dismissed such concerns, saying the elections will take place as scheduled and there is no need for unnecessary international discussion on the matter.

10 hrs ago“The priority of the board is to run cricket. Elections come once every four years, and since the time has arrived, it will be held on time. For other full members, board elections don’t make international news, but we tend to take it very seriously,” he said.
“As members of the current board, our focus is cricket. Elections will certainly take place on schedule. The Election Commission and related activities will be announced soon,” he assured.
Bulbul had returned to Bangladesh from his job at the ICC at the request of Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, taking up the BCB’s top post. Sharing an example of his commitment, he said:
“On May 30, when I was appointed President, it was around 7 pm. By the time I finished, I reached home at midnight. Then I sat down at 6 am and spent the whole night preparing a chart. When I presented it, the entire board agreed and approved it. Since then, we’ve been working on it, and by Allah’s grace, the progress has been excellent. Today, I can see its reflection, even an eight-year-old child was here who just wants to play cricket.”
“My main task is to ensure that any boy who wants to play cricket finds a smooth pathway to do so. That’s the ultimate goal. If the Bangladesh Cricket Board feels I should be kept for some more time through whatever process, I’m ready, because I left everything behind to serve the country. I want to continue if provided with that opportunity.”
