However, Bishnoi, who impressed with figures of 2-18, was surprisingly not given his fourth over. Instead, the pacers returned, and Dhoni along with Dube capitalized, putting together a crucial 57-run stand off just 28 balls.
Shardul Thakur endured a rough outing, conceding 56 runs without taking a wicket.
Despite the hard-fought victory, five-time champions Chennai remained at the bottom of the standings, while Lucknow stayed in fourth place.
