Chasing 249, Sri Lanka lost opener Pathum Nissanka early, trapped LBW by Tanzim Sakib for just 5. A rapid 69-run stand between Kusal Mendis and Nishan Madushka gave the hosts momentum, with Mendis blasting a 20-ball fifty.


However, left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam brought Bangladesh back with a flurry of wickets. He dismissed Madushka for 17 and then struck again to remove Mendis for a blistering 56 off 31 balls via DRS.


Shamim Hossain chipped in by removing skipper Charith Asalanka for 6, while Tanvir continued his domination with wickets of Kamindu Mendis (33), Dunith Wellalage (1), and Maheesh Theekshana, completing his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs. He finished with figures of 5 for 39.

Despite being reduced to 170/8, Sri Lanka threatened with a 58-run ninth-wicket partnership between Janith Liyanage and Dushmantha Chameera.

The match tightened when the equation came down to 21 runs off 17 balls. However, Mustafizur Rahman delivered at a crucial moment, dismissing Liyanage for 78 to ease the pressure. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 232.


Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan Tamim provided a steady start, but Tamim fell early for 7. Emon and Najmul Hossain Shanto rebuilt the innings, but Shanto departed for 14. Emon played a mature innings of 67 from 69 balls, anchoring Bangladesh through the middle overs.


Towhid Hridoy added stability with a fluent 56, while Shamim Hossain contributed 22. However, Bangladesh's lower-middle order failed to fire, collapsing from 190/5 to 248 all out in 45.5 overs. Tanzim Sakib added quick runs late in the innings with a 21-ball 33.


Asitha Fernando starred for Sri Lanka with the ball, taking 4 wickets, while Wanindu Hasaranga bagged 3.


The third and final ODI will be played on Tuesday at the same venue. With the series now level at 1-1, both teams will aim to clinch a crucial series win and build momentum ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
