Tamim: Everything is happening except cricket at BCB

Bangladesh cricket continues to be rocked by one dramatic development after another — from the exit of BCB President Faruque Ahmed to the announcement of a new president and two vice-presidents. Amid this turbulence, the national team’s recent performances have added to the gloom.

Adding his voice to the growing unease, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has expressed concern over the declining popularity of cricket in the country. He also remarked that “everything but cricket” seems to be happening at the BCB.

Speaking to the media on Friday in Lahore, where Bangladesh is currently playing a T20I series against Pakistan, Tamim didn’t hold back in his assessment.
“It’s not just the national team’s performance that has dipped — Bangladesh cricket as a whole is going through a crisis across various sectors. At the BCB, everything is happening except cricket, and no one seems to be thinking about the game. Cricket is losing its popularity.”

Tamim emphasized that turning Bangladesh into a powerhouse in world cricket requires long-term planning. “It can’t be done in 2-3 years. Many people think that just bringing in someone new will fix everything overnight, but it all depends on intent and effort. The mindset to bring change is what truly matters.”

He added that structured planning is needed to advance the sport. “All the ongoing debates and discussions about the president or other board positions are pointless. What’s important is that those who take charge should focus on the development of cricket in the country,” he said.
