Soon after the tournament, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty has decided to take a break from domestic cricket to manage her workload. Initially, she had hinted at stepping away from cricket altogether, but later clarified the matter to Cricfrenzy.
“I have been playing continuously for the last six months. Managing workload is very important now. That’s why I decided to take a break after the World Cup. Playing for the national team without being fully fit won’t be right,” Joty told the media before leaving for World Cup.
Speaking further to Cricfrenzy, she added: “This break is not from international cricket, only from the women’s NCL (National Cricket League). I want someone else to get the chance in my place. After the World Cup, I’ll stay away from cricket for a few days just to keep myself fit.”
Meanwhile, as part of their World Cup preparations, the women’s team recently played a warm-up series against Under-15 boys’ sides, split into two squads – Red and Green. However, both women’s teams suffered defeats, with the boys winning every match and eventually taking the series.
Joty admitted the preparation did not go as planned: “The Green team played much better cricket. My team didn’t perform that well, but the other team showed a very competitive spirit. The purpose of the series was to face a challenging opponent. When we play among ourselves, we already know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, so it doesn’t feel that challenging. Honestly, we expected to perform a bit better.”
