India's swashbuckling batsman Rohit Sharma, who has gained the match fitness from a hamstring injury and has been under quarantine in Sydney, is all set to join the Team India in Melbourne on Wednesday. However, there is still uncertainty over his inclusion in the playing eleven in the third Test, which is starting on January 7.
Meanwhile, India head coach Ravi Shastri on Tuesday said to the media that the team management will have a chat with Rohit about his current status before taking a call on his availability for the match.
"Rohit joins the team tomorrow. We will have a chat with him to see where he is placed physically because he has been quarantined for a couple of weeks. We will have to see now how he feels before we take the call," said Shastri.
The right-handed stylish opening batsman, who last seen in action during the final of Indian Premier League 2020 where under his leadership, Mumbai Indians won their record-fifth IPL title in December, sustained a hamstring injury during the cash-rich league. However, he did play in the IPL's Qualifier 1 and the final but then he had to undergo rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma's inability to fly with the Indian Team had made controversy as the captain Virat Kohli after his arrival in Australia revealed that the team management wasn't informed about his health progress. However, Virat Kohli had said that he would have liked the batsman to be with the team and recover from illness in Australia just like Wriddhiman Saha.
Moreover, Rohit reached Australia in mid-December ahead of the start of the Test series. While he was being quarantined in Sydney, he didn't get any practice and could be in out-of-touch which is probably why Ravi Shastri said that the team will decide later.
