Daniel Vettori, spin bowling coach of Bangladesh has said that he is working with Taijul Islam to make him expert in top-spinning bowling action.
In order to develop the spin bowling ability of the players, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed New Zealand skipper as Bangladesh spin bowling coach on July 27, 2019.
The spin bowling coach has been working to solve players’ doubts as well as trying to teach the spinners new techniques after being assumed his BCB job.

“In some of the subcontinent countries, where the ball spins off the wicket, even then the drift is important. You know the great spinners from the subcontinent had that. But they also spun the ball a lot, and I think that is because of the wicket and the skill they have of bowling side-spin,” Daniel Vettori said.
“I think side-spin is something that probably you don’t learn growing up and had to develop it. I think it’s the same for someone like Taijul,” Vettori said in an interview to Cricbuzz.
Daniel Vettori said that he is trying to teach bowlers like Taijul Islam top-spin to have a grip in the overseas match.
Spinning wickets in the subcontinent usually do not have much of a top-spin. However, in order to be successful in overseas pace-friendly or flat wickets, spinners have to be proficient in top-spin. That's why Vettori will teach Taizul top-spin.
“We talked a lot about him being able to bowl top-spin, because if he can do that, then every ball is easier for him to go to. He has relied on that side-spin a lot, leaving the wickets to do the work in the past,” he said.
“The stuff we are working on now with him is to be able to bowl that top-spin,” Vettori concluded.
