After the New Zealand series, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has also removed his name from the Sri Lanka series. As the all-rounder is set to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the series in April.
Shakib has already applied to the board stating the reason for not playing the Sri Lanka series. Cricket Operations Committee chairman Akram Khan has said that the board will not stop Shakib if he does not want to play Tests against Sri Lanka.

"Shakib has already given us a letter. He has said that he will not play the Test series against Sri Lanka due to his participation in the IPL. We gave him permission. If no one wants to play (Test for the country) then there is no point in forcing anyone." He said.
However, Shakib can play in the ODI series against the Lankans. He will play in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders as Shah Rukh Khan's team bought him for Rs 32 million in the auction of the 14th edition of the tournament held on Thursday.
It is not only Shakib who is not playing for the country because of the IPL. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson-Trent Boult and several other cricketers have withdrawn their name from the upcoming series against Bangladesh. However, Shakib has withdrawn his name from the series with this paternity leave.
Many English cricketers, including Zofra Archer,Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler will not play the Test series at home against the Kiwi for IPL.
